Coach Babu lifts lid on why he quit Nzoia Sugar
Immediate former Nzoia head coach Salim Babu has claimed that his decision to join Kenya Police FC as an assistant coach, a step down from head coaching duties was driven by the desire to undertake his CAF ‘B’ course.
Babu led Nzoia Sugar to a fourth-place finish in the
recently concluded FKF- PL season and he resigned last week to join the law
enforcers as an assistant coach, deputizing Francis Baraza.
“I approached the management and we agreed to part ways
mutually. There are no hard feelings and I wish them the best,” he said. “I had
many offers on my table, I even had the opportunity to join another team as
head coach but I chose Police as an assistant coach because I started my CAF
‘B’ course last month and this means I will need time to pursue the training.”
The former Kisumu All-Stars tactician said he is also
delighted to be linking up with Francis Baraza at Kenya Police, having been under
him at Sony Sugar in 2006.
“We have worked with him before and even played with him. He
has also coached me and we understand each other well. It is just the perfect
combination working with him again and we hope to do great things now and even
in future.”
Babu is at the same delighted at what he achieved with Nzoia
pointing out that they could have done even better with proper motivation.
“We did our best under very difficult circumstances. It is
possible we would have done even better if we had the motivation.”
The Millers were consistent for the better part of the season before falling apart in the final stages of the season as eventual winners Gor Mahia and runners-up Tusker FC jostled for the top spot.
