City Stars eager to get season underway

Nairobi City Stars are confident of launching their 2020/21 season on a winning note when they take on Nzoia Sugar on Sunday in Narok in their season opener.

The Hope Center based side sealed a return to the Kenya Premier League after being crowned 2019/20 National Super League champions on 64 points following the season’s sudden halt owing to the outbreak of the COVID-19 global pandemic.

Club sporting director Samson Otieno has intimated to Citizen Digital that the team is focused on starting the season with a win.

“We are going for the three points and anything short of that will be a disappointment.

“The lads have trained well and are raring to go.”

Otieno says they are not dismayed by the prospect of facing a seasoned side in their first game of the season.

“We know they are a very experienced side given the fact that they have been in the top flight for some time.

“However, that will not stop us from gunning for victory. Am confident we will come back with all the points, “he added.

The team was given the all-clear to start the season following a COVID-19 testing exercise that was conducted at the League Ndogo Grounds on Wednesday by Lancet Kenya in line with the Football Kenya Federation’s directives.

Simba wa Nairobi will leave Nairobi for Narok on Saturday morning and the players will be put through their paces on Sunday morning ahead of their afternoon kick-off.
