Chepsaita Cross Country Run 2024 edition officially launched
The much-anticipated Chepsaita Cross Country Run has
officially opened its registration for the 2024 edition.
Key figures in athletics, politics, and youth development on
Saturday gathered to mark the event's significance, underscoring its dual
mission of promoting sports and education.
Patron Farouk Kibet emphasized the importance of early
registration for smooth event organization.
He also announced that scholarships from this year’s event
would be directed toward supporting needy children, highlighting the event's
commitment to education.
National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, who was the
Chief Guest, launched the registration process, praising the event for
fostering community unity.
He noted that sports are a key factor in bringing Kenyans
together and celebrated the Chepsaita Run as a shining example of solidarity
through athletics.
World-renowned marathoner Eliud Kipchoge shared inspiring
remarks about the role of sports and education as great equalizers in society.
He encouraged young participants to take their education
seriously, framing the "Run for Education" as a powerful vehicle for
youth empowerment.
Bungoma MP Dan Wanyama echoed the call for youth empowerment
through sports, stressing the importance of identifying talent at a young age.
He praised the government’s ongoing efforts in stadium
development and funding to nurture athletic talent.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii, on his part, lauded the
event’s positive impact on local communities, framing sports as a viable career
path.
He praised the ‘Run for Education’ initiative for its role in
uplifting the youth and advancing educational opportunities.
Migori Senator Eddy Oketh emphasized the connection between a
healthy mind and body, noting that both are crucial for personal and community
well-being.
Representatives from Athletics Kenya, including Youth
Development Chairman Barnabas Korir and Central Rift Chairman Abraham Mutai,
celebrated the race's recent upgrade to Gold Level status by World Athletics.
They highlighted the race’s inclusivity, with participants
ranging from 5 to 95 years old, connecting generations and showcasing the
event's wide appeal.
The Chepsaita Run now enters its second edition, after Ishmael Kipkurui and Olympian Edna Jebitok triumphed at the first edition held at
Chepkemel secondary school playground in Turbo, Uasin Gishu County, last year.
