The much-anticipated Chepsaita Cross Country Run has officially opened its registration for the 2024 edition.

Key figures in athletics, politics, and youth development on Saturday gathered to mark the event's significance, underscoring its dual mission of promoting sports and education.

Patron Farouk Kibet emphasized the importance of early registration for smooth event organization.

He also announced that scholarships from this year’s event would be directed toward supporting needy children, highlighting the event's commitment to education.

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, who was the Chief Guest, launched the registration process, praising the event for fostering community unity.

He noted that sports are a key factor in bringing Kenyans together and celebrated the Chepsaita Run as a shining example of solidarity through athletics.

World-renowned marathoner Eliud Kipchoge shared inspiring remarks about the role of sports and education as great equalizers in society.

He encouraged young participants to take their education seriously, framing the "Run for Education" as a powerful vehicle for youth empowerment.

Bungoma MP Dan Wanyama echoed the call for youth empowerment through sports, stressing the importance of identifying talent at a young age.

He praised the government’s ongoing efforts in stadium development and funding to nurture athletic talent.

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii, on his part, lauded the event’s positive impact on local communities, framing sports as a viable career path.

He praised the ‘Run for Education’ initiative for its role in uplifting the youth and advancing educational opportunities.

Migori Senator Eddy Oketh emphasized the connection between a healthy mind and body, noting that both are crucial for personal and community well-being.

Representatives from Athletics Kenya, including Youth Development Chairman Barnabas Korir and Central Rift Chairman Abraham Mutai, celebrated the race's recent upgrade to Gold Level status by World Athletics.

They highlighted the race’s inclusivity, with participants ranging from 5 to 95 years old, connecting generations and showcasing the event's wide appeal.

The Chepsaita Run now enters its second edition, after Ishmael Kipkurui and Olympian Edna Jebitok triumphed at the first edition held at Chepkemel secondary school playground in Turbo, Uasin Gishu County, last year.
