Chebet, Simiu triumph at Police Cross Country Championships
World Cross Country
Champion Beatrice Chebet and world half marathon silver medallist Daniel Simiu
are the winners of the 2024 National Police Service Cross Country championships
held on Friday at the Ngong Race Course.
In the men’s race, Simiu of
Rift Valley region claimed victory in 29 minutes, 48.49 seconds ahead of Edwin
Kiplagat of RDU who finished second 30:17.91 while Robert Kiprop of DCI came
home third in 30:43.06
Despite the victory, Simiu-
a Police Constable- expressed his dissatisfaction with the Service for not
promoting him despite having impressed last season.
The world 10,000m silver
medal removed his shirt as he approached the finish line as a protest.
“…why are we not being recognized. I am sending this message to my employer (NPS) please recognise us. Whenever a child does well, you have to award them with a present. Thus I am just begging from the bottom of my heart,” lamented Simiu.
He also claimed victories at Istanbul and New Delhi Half Marathons.
In the women’s race, Chebet of Eastern continued her fine
form after claiming the women’s title in 34:44.85 with Gladys Kwamboka of Main
Campus finishing second in 34:47.11 as Margaret Chelimo of Eastern placed third
in 34:47.59.
