Bura face giants Kaya Tiwi in Coast basketball final

Bura Girls reached their first ever basketball finals at the Coast Region Term One School Games after defeating Mama Ngina Girls 43-27 on Friday at Shimo La Tewa.

They will face a daunting final against Kaya Tiwi from Kwale County after the three-time national champions blew apart St. Johns Kaloleni 150-0 in the other last four clash.

“My girls started poorly but we have a good fighting spirit and that’s why we won. I’m very happy to be in our first regional final,” coach Ishmael Omwake said.

In hockey, defending champions Shimo La Tewa were knocked out by Kilifi in a 3-0 shootout loss after the match had ended 1-1 in regulation time.

Kilifi will thus face-off with St. Charles Lwanga in the final after team from Mombasa County 1-0 against Taita Taveta County’s Kenyatta High. Both will proceed to the National Games as Coast has been given two slots as hosts.

The rugby 15’s champions Galana from Kilifi County won their preliminary games against Shimo La Tewa and St. Marys by 15-8 and 12-0 respectively, booking a semis date with Taita Taveta’s Dr. Kraph in the first semi final while host Shimo La Tewa tackle Kwale High in the other semi on Saturday.
