Boost to Shujaa as Oliech, Ouma join squad for North America legs
Top Fry Nakuru flanker Oscar Ouma and Impala Saracens full-back Samuel Oliech have made a return to the National Sevens squad, Shujaa, to play in the fifth and sixth rounds of the 2019/2020 HSBC Sevens World Series in Los Angeles, USA, and Vancouver, Canada.
The two who last featured for Kenya during the 2017/2018 season are among the five changes made by Shujaa head coach Paul Feeney which includes KCB’s winger Jacob Ojee, Kabras Sugar’s forward Daniel Sikuta and Nondescripts winger Oscar Dennis.
Geoffrey Okwach who made his Shujaa debut in Hamilton last month alongside Herman Humwa, winger Johnstone Olindi, Bush Mwale and Nelson Oyoo have been left out of the squad to Las Angeles and Vancouver.
The other players in the squad include skipper Andrew Amonde, Jeffrey Oluoch, Collins Injera, Daniel Taabu, Billy Odhiambo, Willy Ambaka, Vincent Onyala and Alvin Otieno.
In the U.S Shujaa will battle it out with Dubai Sevens champions South Africa, Ireland and Canada.
The format for the two legs will be different from that of Sydney and Hamilton Sevens where only the first team in each Pool qualified for the main cup semi-finals.
The series has returned to the older format where the first and the second team in each Pool qualified for the main cup quarterfinals.
Shujaa will start their campaign with a match against South Africa at 10.35 pm (EAT) on Saturday February 28 before battling it out with Ireland at 1.31 am (EAT) on Sunday March 1.
Their last Pool B clash will be against Canada at 5.35 am (EAT) on Sunday and all the matches will be played at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Los Angeles.
