Blazers fined for African Championships snub

Blazers Hockey Club formerly Telkom have been fined Sh100,000 for late withdrawal from the 2019 Africa Cup for Club Championships (ACCC) held in Ismailia,Egypt on December 1-8, 2019.

According to a statement from Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) has been slapped with the fine payable by February 29 failure to which the Africa Hockey Federation (AfHF) may consider further sanctions.

Consequently, Blazers have reached out to KHU and are working out to ensure compliance to the requirements of continental body.

The record Kenyan champions pulled out of the annual championships – which they have won 10 times – only three days to the event which triggered the sanction from the AfHF.

Blazers pulled out of the tourney owing to financial constraints with the main sponsor- telecommunications company Telkom withdrew their sponsorship last year June.

All the teams that were due to represent Kenya at the competition also withdrew including; Kenya Police and Butali Sugar Warriors and Strathmore University.
