The Boxing Federation
of Kenya (BFK) is hosting an International Boxing Association (IBA) course in
one of the hotels in Nairobi, aimed at enhancing the skills of coaches,
referees, and boxing judges.
The program, which
started on Monday, November 25, 2024 running for five days, includes a
beginners' 1-Star coaching course alongside a specialized 1-Star and 2-Star
referees and judges’ course.
The coaching sessions,
facilitated by Mauritius-based instructor Godavarisingh Rajcoomar, have
attracted several Kenyan coaches eager to elevate their expertise.
In addition to Kenya,
other countries participating in this initiative include Tanzania, Uganda, and
several nations from the Central African region, underlining the regional
impact of the program.
Simultaneously, six
Kenyan referees and judges are attending the advanced IBA 2-Star referees and
judges course, which commenced on Saturday, November 23, 2024.
The week-long program
features participants such as Nelson Otieno, Eddy Mwaura, Stephen Ndung’u,
Leila Said, Samwel Obiero, and Hellen Wanjiku.
These six individuals
were part of a group of eight judges who advanced to 1-Star status in August
after completing their IBA course in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
This initiative
reflects the BFK’s commitment to improving the standards of officiating and
coaching in Kenyan amateur boxing.
By investing in
capacity building, the federation aims to position the country as a leader in
boxing excellence across the region.
