The Kenya Cup regular season reaches a dramatic climax on Saturday with both survival and supremacy on the line. The battle at the top is just as fierce as the scramble to avoid the dreaded drop zone, setting up a thrilling Match Day 11.
KCB RFC,
top of the pile on 50 points, will go point hunting in Western, home to Kabras
Sugar RFC, the team that has handed a lot of rugby lessons and pain in equal measure, in the last
three years.
They are
seeking a winning formula this time round, and have sounded out DHL Stormers
RFC Forwards Coach Rito Hlungwani to fine-tune their squad, ahead of what is expected
to be a tempestuous clash, a battle of nerves, at the ASK Showground.
But for
Mwamba Rugby Club, the stakes couldn't be higher. Head coach Mark Mshila
refuses to let last weekend’s gritty but gut-wrenching loss to Nakuru RFC
dampen their fighting spirit. Despite the setback, Mwamba snatched two crucial
points, keeping their survival hopes alive. Now, they must bring the fire
against KU Blak Blad in a do-or-die clash at Impala Club.
“We take
the positives from Nakuru. Against KU, we must win—no team goes into a rugby
match just hoping. We are all in. The boys, the technical bench, and the
committee—we are united in our mission to stay in the league,” said Mark Mshila.
Mwamba
isn’t the only side with everything to lose. Strathmore Leos also teeter on the
brink, locking horns with Kenya Harlequin in Madaraka. Meanwhile, Kisumu RFC
must fend off Nondies at home to secure their place, while South Coast Pirates
face a must-win showdown against Menengai Oilers at Seacrest, hoping the avoid
the curse of first-season chop
And then
comes the grand finale—a blockbuster top-of-the-table clash between defending
champions
