Bale one of the world’s best – Hamsik

Slovakia midfielder Marek Hamsik believes comparisons between himself and Wales talisman Gareth Bale are ill-founded as the Real Madrid forward is one of the best players in the world.

Despite this, the 28-year-old Napoli star feels his side are in with a great chance when the teams meet on Saturday in their Euro 2016 Group B opener in Bordeaux.

“I think Gareth Bale is one of the best players in the world. I wouldn’t like to compare myself to him. It won’t be a match between Gareth Bale and Marek Hamsik, but between Wales and Slovakia.

“Football is a team sport. It’s all about team spirit and how the whole squad performs on the pitch. We’re really excited about the match, it’s been so long since we qualified, so we can’t wait to play.”

Meanwhile, head coach Jan Kozak says preparations went perfectly to plan, and there is a great atmosphere in the squad.

“Preparation went according to plans, there have been no problems. Regarding the form of the squad, all players are fit, ready to play.

“The vibe in the squad is really upbeat, positive, We are really looking forward to the next match. You have to savour, to enjoy games like this.”
