APS Bomet’s long-standing dream of playing in the FKF Premier League finally came true on Friday following a favourable ruling by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Leagues and Competitions Committee.

The South Rift region-based side secured the other automatic place and will feature in the top-tier league next season alongside Nairobi United who were also promoted last month.

The Committee ruling centered around a controversial National Super League (NSL) match against Kibera Black Stars, played on June 13.

The game was abandoned in the 79th minute after chaos erupted when substitute Philip Wasai scored an equalizer for APS Bomet, with the referee ruled that the ball had crossed the line — a decision that was fiercely disputed by Kibera supporters.

The situation escalated when home fans stormed the pitch and attacked assistant referee Eunice Njeri and the match was abandoned as there were no security officers to protect the match officials.

The Committee found Kibera Black Stars culpable for the abandonment, citing inadequate security measures by the host team.

In line with Article 3.3.3 of the FKF rules and regulations, the committee awarded the match to APS Bomet with a 2-0 score and three points.

The three points put Bomet on 64 points, leaving third-placed Fortune Sacco (57 points) mathematically unable to catch them with only two matches remaining.

APS Bomet had earlier suffered a setback when Muhoroni Youth was relegated and all their season results nullified, losing six crucial points after completing a season double against them.

Their heartbreak stretches back to the 2021/22 season, where despite earning promotion on sporting merit, the entire campaign was nullified by FKF, cancelling all promotions and relegations.

APS Bomet and current leaders Nairobi United are in contention to add icing on the cake with the NSL title.

Nairobi United stand on the verge of glory, needing a win in the two remaining matches while Bomet, who are five points below, hope the Naibois to lose both matches and pick maximum points in their matches to lift the title.

Fortune Sacco, Darajani and Naivas are all fighting for the playoff slot.
