All set for First Assurance Golf Day at Nyanza Club on Saturday Tee-Off

All roads lead to the green fairways of Nyanza Golf Club in Kisumu this Saturday as the club hosts the eagerly awaited First Assurance Golf Day, drawing a strong field of golfers from across the Western Kenya region and beyond. 

The event, sponsored by First Assurance, marks a major milestone in the insurer's regional engagement, coming just a day after the launch of their fully-fledged Kisumu branch.

The event has attracted over 80 golfers, with tee-offs beginning as early as 7:50 a.m. and the tournament promises stiff competition across 21 groups.

Golfers from clubs in Kakamega, Kisii, Kericho, Eldoret, and Nandi Bears are expected to descend on the lakeside city to test their skills on one of Kenya’s most prestigious regional courses.

“This is a very important mark for me as the Lady Captain of Nyanza Golf Club,” said Dr. Lina Akello, who is also among the players in Group 11 teeing off at 9:30a.m.

“Having First Assurance sponsor an event here this weekend is special as we also celebrate Mother’s Day in a unique way. Kisumu remains a giant of golf in the region, and this event further elevates our standards thanks to such committed partners.”

The opening group at 7:50 a.m. features E Rumoh, Helen Muma, and Ismael Noo, setting the pace for what promises to be a thrilling day on the course. Among the exciting early pairings is Group 3 (8:10 a.m.) with seasoned golfers BS Patel, Andrew Mutua, Lilian Kongani, and Clement Ramah.

Shortly after, the fifth group sees a competitive mix with V Amusala, N Winja, V Odhiambo, and B Sugut, teeing off at 8:30a.m.

The First Assurance team itself will be well represented. Managing Director Stephen Lokonyo will take to the course in Group 15 at 12:20 p.m., alongside Peter Nuthu, Nyanza Golf chairman Tom Odongo, and A Cheruiyot.

Meanwhile, Daniel Mwangi pairs with E Kariuki and R Sandhu in Group 16 at 12:30 p.m., and Grace Mugo joins Christine Riaroh, E Barno, and I Kuto in Group 14 at 12:10 p.m.

With a midday break from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon for course turning, the afternoon session resumes with more intense matchups. Notable appearances include A Patel, BM Shah, M Odour, and Fadhili M in Group 18 at 12:50 p.m., while N Shah, S Rakhewa, M Nyamari, and B Otieno close the draw in Group 21 at 1:20 p.m.

First Assurance’s regional expansion strategy is at the heart of this tournament.
