Akwana attributes Mathare's rough patch to 'lack of form' and injuries
Mathare United head
coach Ezekiel Akwana has attributed their poor patch in the league to 'lack of
form', compounded by injuries noting that their tribulations have spilled over
from last term.
After surviving
relegation last season by a whisker, the 'Slum Boys' are yet to find their
footing in the new campaign.
A 1-0 loss to Bidco United, that followed a
previous 6-0 defeat to Kariobangi Sharks, compounded the misery of the former
league champions who have mustered just one win in six games.
However, Akwana is confident his boys can turn
around their fortunes to avoid last season’s tribulations.
"Yes it’s a slow
start but it’s too early to predict anything, we still have some time to
correct our mistakes and get back into the game.
We have always had a
great game but we are keeping teams in the game and when we do so, they feel
they have an opportunity to beat us,” Akwana told Citizen Digital.
The soft spoken
tactician is upbeat the new signings brought on board recently will help
stabilize the team.
"We want to
incorporate the new signings in the team and we are hoping the team is going to
turn around,” he added.
Meanwhile, the league
is expected to remain shut, at least for the next 10 days, after the caretaker committee
formed by Sports CS Amina Mohamed to run the game after disbandment of FKF gave
the directive.
