AFC Leopards are set to transform from a community club to a corporate team, following the appointment of a Corporate Taskforce to implement the changes.

Speaking during the taskforce’s first meeting, AFC Leopards Assistant Secretary, Laureen Aseka, said the eight-member team will engage the club’s fraternity on civic education on the benefits of attaining the corporate status, which he said include attracting better investors and players to the club.

Aseka said they are planning to tour Tanzanian football clubs, Simba and Yanga, who have successfully transitioned to corporate entities and revolutionalised the Tanzanian Premier League to one of the most reputable leagues in the region.

The taskforce aims to bench-mark on how the clubs transitioned to corporate status, attracting a huge fan base and big-money sponsors.

“The taskforce will have its first month of capacity building with a bench-marking visit in Tanzania, we will visit Yanga and Simba so that we can see the corporate models that they have and we see what we can borrow. At the end of the month we will tour Tanzania and learn more about transformation of the two community clubs, said Aseka.

Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary, Musalia Mudavadi, who is also a former Ingwe patron, donated Ksh.2 million to the taskforce to facilitate their operations.

“The committee would love to announce that we got a very big donation from our former club patron, Musalia Mudavadi, who donated 2 million shillings to the AFC Leopards task force. Mudavadi encouraged other well-wishers to come on board to contribute towards the accomplishment of the task force’s mandate, added Aseka.

The taskforce has put forward a budget of Ksh.5 million for the six-month exercise, which will see them engage more than 5,000 club members and other key stakeholders, including corporate partners and sporting brands.
