Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has apologised to Kenyans after State broadcaster, KBC failed to air the 2026 World Cup qualifier match between Kenya's Harambee Stars and Gabon.

Namwamba, who took to his X account (formerly Twitter), blasted KBC for letting Kenyan fans down by failing to screen the game that was played at the Stade de Franceville on Friday evening.

“Last night KBC let down Kenyan fans with satellite difficulties that occasioned failure to screen the Harambee Stars game vs Gabon in Franceville,” the CS wrote.

“We owe Kenyans a sincere, unequivocal, and unambiguous apology for this disappointment. You sure deserve better,” Namwamba added.

The Sports CS had earlier rallied Kenyans to offer their support to Harambee Stars by following the live proceedings on KBC only to be disappointed.

“Delighted to announce that the Harambee Stars vs Gabon 2026 World Cup qualifier game tonight will be broadcast live by KBC. I consider this to be a special occasion as Kenya returns to international football after a long two-year absence occasioned by the FIFA suspension. Kenyans deserve to witness this historic moment live. Tune in from 7.00 pm EAT and cheer on our boys,” he wrote earlier.

This forced Kenyans to pour their anger at the CS who only provided an illegal streaming site during the match.

The National football team, however, fell 2-1 to Gabon in their opening fixture of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers. Harambee Stars to play Seychelles on November 20 in Abidjan as they seek to qualify for the coveted tournament.
