Woman arrested ‘stealing’ baby
A two-hour old baby girl was on Monday night rescued from a suspected child kidnapper at the Garissa Referral Hospital after the suspect attempted to escape with her.
The hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Ahmed Dagane, said that the suspect masqueraded a nurse as was seen at the maternity wing pretending to assist the nurses attend to expectant mothers.
The suspect, identified as Aisha Mohammed Said, is said to have grabbed the baby from an incubator and tried to fit her into a bag when a woman noticed and raised an alarm attracting the attention of the nurses.
She then tried to escape through a window but the nurses intervened and arrested her.
According to the Garissa Police boss, Aron Moriasi, investigations are underway to establish the motive of the suspect who is already in custody.
Moriasi says that the suspect will be arraigned in court as soon as they finalize investigations, further urging residents to exercise patience.
