Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday arrested a 30-year-old woman in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County for forging and selling bogus police clearance certificates.

Noline Awuor Odika, the DCI says, managed to maintain her ruse for an extended period of time by posing as a Crime Records Officer, swindling unsuspecting Kenyans in the process.

She is reported to have had an accomplice in the form of her husband, Keith Wanyama Yamame, an ex-GSU officer.

"Jointly with her Ex-GSU hubby, the lovers in crime used about 11 subscriber SIM cards to communicate and receive money from their targets, whom they issued with fake certificates at a Ksh.3,000 fee," the DCI said in a statement on Thursday.

"Notably, the certificates either bore forged signatures or those lifted from previous office holders who are long retired."

When detectives cornered the two suspects, Yamame reportedly fled leaving his wife behind.

"Yamame sprinted into thin air braving the evening shivers, leaving behind a wife and a Subaru car that police detained," said the DCI.

A manhunt for Yamame is currently underway while Odika remains in police custody pending arraignment.
