Woman abandons 2-week-old baby at a church in Siaya

The woman who is yet to be identified is said to have left the infant with one of the worshipers and never returned.

According to Siaya County Commander Cleti Kimaiyo, the matter was reported to Akala police station by Sarah Atieno Okinyi who stated that while at the Gospel of Jesus Church, an unknown woman aged between 18-25 years asked her to hold her baby boy as she went to the washroom.

She stated that since Sunday at 10.00 am when the woman left for the washroom, she disappeared to an unknown destination and never came back.

Kimaiyo stated that the identity and even the whereabouts of the said woman has not yet been known, adding that efforts to trace and apprehended her is ongoing.

While confirming the incident, the County police boss added that the children’s officer in Gem Wagai sub-county was informed before they took the infant to Rang’ala children’s home in Ugunja sub-county for proper care and protection.
