Why I retained Kindiki as Interior CS - President Ruto
President William Ruto has come out to defend his decision to nominate Prof. Kithure Kindiki back to the Ministry of Interior and National Administration amid public outcry.
The nomination was announced by President
Ruto on Friday last week among 11 others as the Head of State sought to
reconstitute his Cabinet after sending all ministers packing just a week prior.
Speaking in Tharaka Nithi County on Thursday, a day after
naming the second batch of 10 CS nominees, President Ruto said Kindiki was well
placed to chair the security docket due to his work when he previously held the
position before the Cabinet dissolution.
Being the only nominee to retain his former
ministry, President Ruto said that the ex-Tharaka Nithi Senator had proved his
capability to run the security sector owing to the peace restored in North Rift
and other banditry-prone areas.
“I thank you for giving me Prof. Kindiki… Huyu
jamaa amefanya kazi nzuri. Kule magaidi wamekwama, kule Lamu amepanga, North
Rift ata wale bandits wamehama,” Ruto said amidst applause from the
congregation.
The President appreciated Kindiki’s efforts
in combating terror groups during his two-year tenure as Interior CS, urging
him to continue with the good work, further assuring the public that he
had no doubt the former legislator would deliver on his mandate.
“Huyu jamaa anatosha ama hatoshi? Aendelee
asiendelee? Aweke amani Kenya? Wakora washughulikiwe?” Ruto posed to the crowd.
Prof. Kindiki was dismissed with the rest ofthe Cabinet Secretaries following anti-government protests targeting State
officials and the Kenya Kwanza leadership in recent weeks.
