Leaders under the Azimio la Umoja movement have lashed out at Deputy President William Ruto over his recent remarks towards President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga warning him against disrespecting them during his political campaigns.

The political leaders called out the DP claiming he was undermining his superiors and was resulting to hurling insults at them despite President Kenyatta making him the country's second-in-command.

Speaking on Wednesday in Siaya County where they drummed up support for Raila Odinga ahead of the August polls, the leaders told off the DP saying he had no respect for the head of state and should be careful what he says about him.

Suna East legislator Junet Mohammed censured Ruto over his previous sentiments where the DP said he was the force behind Uhuru’s legacy stating that it was the vice versa; Uhuru was behind Ruto's success.

“Bila Uhuru Kenyatta hakuna mahali Ruto angefika hapa duniani, ata haungekua deputy president wa Kenya; kama si Uhuru Kenyatta, William Ruto angekua anauza kuku yake huko Eldoret,” Suna East MP Junet Mohamed said.

He added: “Hapana kojoa kwa sahani ambaye unakulia my friend. Heshimu Rais Kenyatta, yeye ndiye alifanya huwe Naibu wake.”

Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina similarly faulted DP Ruto and his allies for what he termed as 'reckless' remarks saying they did not respect those in leadership.

“Kwetu tunasema shingo haiwezi pita kichwa. Huyo DP amekua siku hizi ni matusi matusi. Hiyo makasiriko yote mnataka kuongozwa na mtu ya namna hiyo?” He posed.

“Heshima si utumwa, wewe usipomwonyesha Rais heshima, ata sisi tutakukosesha heshima.”

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho on his part cautioned the DP against disrespecting Raila both as a political elder and as his party leader.

“William Ruto must learn to respect my party leader and my fifth president. Wakileta unoko tutaleta unoko, wakipiga meza tutapiga meza, wakileta ubaya tutaleta ubaya,” Joho said.

He added: “Ruto ajue Raila si level yake; asijaribu kuleta Raila level yake, kwanza ajaribu kupita hapa kwetu; hapa kwangu tu hatoshi.”

A bullish Joho said he was ready to face the UDA party leader head-on to ensure he accords Odinga the respect he deserved.

“Ruto usijaribu kuongea na Baba my friend, round hii kama umuheshimu, tutakufanya umuheshimu. Na ukijaribu kuendelea, mimi nitamenyana na wewe mbaya sana,” Joho stated.

The Azimio La Umoja allied leaders drummed up support for Odinga in Ugunja and Bondo. On Thursday they are set to tour Vihiga County.
