‘We want a competent Cabinet,’ Gachagua tells Ruto as he insists Mt. Kenya must be considered

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is asking President William Ruto to select competent candidates for the positions of the vacant Cabinet Secretaries.

The Deputy President, speaking during the funeral service of the late Bishop Allan Kiuna in Kiambu County on Wednesday, defended his calls for the appointment of candidates from the Mt. Kenya region, saying it is a legitimate issue.

DP Gachagua said only candidates above reproach should be considered for the job, casting doubts on the return of politicians to President Ruto's second Cabinet.

“A leader is as good as the team that supports that leader. That is why we support President William Ruto for his very pragmatic and courageous decision to dissolve his Cabinet and come up with a new team that is focused and competent to help him in the management of the affairs of this nation,” he said.

“I want to ask the church and all Christians to pray our President to pick the right people. It is a time to reflect and see where we messed.”

However, Gachagua did not shy away from calling for the consideration of Mt. Kenya in forming the next Cabinet, sentiments previously shared by Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, who stated that the region should be given at least 8 slots.

“Sisi kutoka mlima tunaongelea ukweli...hatuna mapendeleo...tulikuwa na candidate wetu Mwaure Wahiga kwa 2022 ballot, lakini tulichagua Ruto, kwa hivyo hatuna ukabila,” stated the DP.

He went ahead to vow to extend his war on the production and consumption of illicit brews in Mt. Kenya Region.

“We will not bow down to this initiative because we will lose an entire generation,” Gachagua noted.

The late Bishop Allan Kiuna, who was buried in Thindigua, was eulogized by family, friends and congregants as a loving and caring father figure.
