Visually impaired student who sat KCSE in 2020 yet to be placed in a university by KUCCPS

George Oria Ojwang, who sat for his KCPE examination at Salvation Army High School for the blind and obtained a mean grade of C plus had been placed at Masindo Muliro University but the institution failed to admit him because it does not have a special unit for People Living With Disability (PLWD).

Oria says the university wrote him a release letter allowing him to look for a chance in another institution. A letter he submitted to KUCCPS. Unfortunately no action has been taken as he has not been placed at the right university.

The student says he has visited the KUCCPS office severally to look for placement but his effort has remained futile. 

Oria told Citizen Digital that a chance has already been offered to him at another university, but he cannot be admitted because the KUCCPS has not placed him officially at the university using the recommended procedure.

The student says one of the officers working at KUCCPS told him that the office is now handling the cases of the students who sat for the KCPE in years 2021 and 2022 and not 2020. 

Oria’s hope of joining the university is still uncertain and therefore appeals for government intervention.

His mother Lilian Akinyi says the family lives in abject poverty and they all have hope for their son who is yet to join the university because of the failure of KUCCPS to place him at the right university. 

Akinyi says the student who is the firstborn in a family of five carries the hope of the family.
