Viral ‘Chipo Mwitu’ vendor Bevalyne Kwamboka suspends services

Twenty-three-year old Kwamboka became an internet sensation after promoting her hustle on Twitter, attracting buyers and supporters alike.

Taking to the social media platform on Tuesday, Kwamboka said that the spike in the prices of potatoes and cooking oil had pushed her to shelve her french fries venture.

“To all Chipo mwitu supporters, due to increase in waru n cooking oil prices we have officially 'suspended' selling Chipo until further notice,” wrote Kwamboka.

“Waru was 1200 now 3200, oil was 1200 now 2350 (10l), profit ziko almost zero.”

Kwamboka, a teacher by profession recently graduated from Kenyatta University and says that her focus will be on matoke as well as part-time teaching gigs.

“Let's focus on afkado n matoke and part time pupils coaching,” she added.

Nominated Senator Beatrice Kwamboka was among those who jumped in to boost Kwamboka’s business when her story hit the internet.

Senator Kwamboka offset the vendor’s rent for the remainder of 2021, alongside a potato chipper, cooking oil and two sacks of potatoes.

The vendor’s business had been operating under a bridge until then.
