Uasin Gishu County begins probe into dysfunctional insurance cover

Uasin Gishu county assembly has passed a motion resolving to constitute an ad-hoc committee to probe the issues raised in a petition filed by three worker's unions over the dysfunctional medical insurance cover.

The Kenya County Government Workers Union, Kenya Union of Clinical Officers and Kenya National Union of Medical Laboratory Officers had filed a petition at the County Assembly calling for the investigation into the challenges they face though the insurance service provider Trident Insurance Company.

While moving the motion, the leader of majority in the county assembly Julius Sang noted that the petition met the threshold in accordance with the Uasin Gishu County Petition procedure act and the standing orders of the house.

He said the terms of reference is for the ad-hoc committee to establish the complete procurement process of the medical insurance company, establish how long the medical insurance cover contract has been in force as well as the contract period among other issues.
