Two suspects have been arrested over the vandalism of railway infrastructure in Lugari Sub-County, Kakamega County.

The intelligence-led operation by officers from Bungoma Railways, Kipkaren Railways patrol base, and the Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) security unit targeted the home of 35-year-old Geoffrey Kiprotich, where police recovered 65 pandrol clips hidden inside his house.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), upon interrogation, Kiprotich named his accomplice, 60-year-old Nicholas Macharia from Mwamba area in Lugari, whom he alleged was responsible for transporting the vandalised items to an undisclosed dealer. Macharia was later arrested at his residence.

The two are currently being held at Bungoma Central Police Station pending arraignment. Investigations are ongoing to establish the identity of the end recipient of the stolen items and to recover additional infrastructure.

"The public is reminded that railway vandalism is a serious criminal offense under Kenyan law. Individuals found engaging in such activities will face arrest, prosecution, and severe penalties," said the DCI.
