Two suspects arrested for attempting to bribe DCI officers with Ksh.179K
Police in Kondele, Kisumu County are detaining two suspects
for attempting to issue Ksh.179,000 bribe to detectives from the Directorate of
Criminal Investigations (DCI) so as to cover up for a car theft suspect.
Eugene Kiprop Kipchirchir,
38, and Hillary Kiplangat Kibet, 40 are said to have offered the aforementioned
amount to Kondele DCI officers so as to protect one Rashid Oyondi Nyanuba.
“The long arm of the law
caught two individuals red-handed as they tried to butter up DCI officers with
a hefty bribe of Sh179,000 to turn a blind eye to a notorious car theft
suspect,” read a statement by the DCI on Saturday.
“These audacious culprits
spun a web of lies, claiming to possess crucial information about a well-known
fugitive involved in car theft.”
Following their arrest and
interrogation, the duo led the sleuths to a restaurant within the city where the
car theft suspect was eventually cornered.
“During the subsequent
interrogation, the schemers spilt the beans, leading the officers to swoop down
on a parking lot at Dondez restaurant and nab the main suspect, Rashid Oyondi
Nyanuba, who was hiding inside an Isuzu double cab with the license plate KAW
092Y,” stated the DCI.
The suspects are currently
being held at the Kondele Police Station awaiting arraignment.
