Two suspects arrested as fake fertiliser worth Ksh.23M seized in Nakuru

The Anti-Counterfeit Authority (ACA) has seized fake fertiliser worth Ksh.23 million in Molo, Nakuru County, as part of its efforts to eliminate counterfeit agricultural produce that threaten the nation's food security.
According to the Authority, two suspects were nabbed with the
fake agro-inputs and were taken into custody.
Following the arrest, Dr. Mbugua Njoroge, ACA Executive
Director, reaffirmed the Authority's commitment to enhancing public awareness
of genuine products and arresting the perpetrators who introduce the fake
produce in the market.
"Counterfeit agricultural inputs harm farmers, degrade
soil and undermine food security. ACA is committed to protecting genuine
products through strict enforcement and public awareness," Dr. Njoroge
said.
The ACA boss also urged farmers to assist authorities by
reporting suspicious dealings.
The rate of counterfeit goods in the country has been on the
rise, posing a risk to consumer's health and safety.
The latest data from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) showed
that the value of counterfeit goods seized at several entry points rose from
Ksh.200 million in December 2023 to Ksh.243.5 million after twelve
months.
At the frontline of this predicament, ACA has urged the public
to be more vigilant as a consumer and report any suspected fake products across
the country.
