Two students seriously injured in dormitory fire in Machakos

Two female students at St. George Katheka High School are nursing serious injuries after sustaining burns in a dormitory fire.

The victims; a Form 1 and Form 2 girl, were sleeping when the dormitory caught fire on Friday last week in a suspected arson case that saw eight students arrested.

The girls were rescued and taken to Machakos Level Five Hospital where they were admitted with 57% burn on their legs.

According to a medical official at the hospital, currently, the girls cannot walk but are responding well to treatment.

The school has since been closed.

Masii MCA Betty Nzisa Nzioki visited the students in hospital where she condemned the incident and called for action against the rising cases of school fires in the area.

Earlier last week, students from Machakos Boys High School were sent home after two dormitories were burnt down in two separate incidents. No student was injured in the inferno as both dormitories were burnt as the students were in class.
