Two people have been left dead and one house torched following a land dispute that erupted in Gem Yala sub-county, Siaya County.

50-year-old Charles Orwa met his death after he allegedly hacked Francis Omondi, 45, to death when a dispute erupted between two families over an access road.

According to Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo, officers got information from the area Assistant Chief Noah Oluoch that there was a murder incident within Luri ‘B’ village.

Officers from Yala police station visited the scene and found the bodies of Omondi and Orwa lying in a pool of blood.

He stated that preliminary investigations established that a dispute had erupted between the family of one James Warambo and that of the late Orwa when Omondi tried to intervene.

Mr. Kimaiyo stated that in the event Omondi was hacked with a panga on the head by Orwa.

Irate members of the public then descended on Orwa with thorough beatings and he was already dead before police officers from Nyawara arrived at the scene.

Still infuriated, the mob proceeded to Orwa's home and torched one permanent house and two other semi-permanent houses, further stabbing his son Marcel Ohoma in the thigh using a spear.

Commander Kimaiyo stated that Ohoma was rushed to Yala sub-county hospital for treatment while the two bodies were taken to the facility's mortuary.

Meanwhile, a further probe has been launched into the incident.
