Two suspected drug traffickers were on Wednesday arrested as Anti-Narcotic Unit (ANU) detectives intercepted three bales of bhang with an estimated street value of Ksh.360,000 in Busia County.

The suspects, Ferdinand Wanjero, 29, and Daniel Juma Mwadimwa, 26, were apprehended at the Busia Bus Station after members of the public tipped off police.

Police believe that the bhang, found concealed in backpacks, was destined for Nairobi.

"The two men were spotted at the bustling Busia bus station, preparing to board a Climax bus bound for Nairobi, carrying suspected narcotics in their bags," the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said in a statement on X.

"Anti-narcotics officers responded swiftly and managed to arrest the two, and upon thorough search discovered  the 12kg of cannabis sativa with an approximate street value of Sh360,000."

The duo remain in custody pending arraignment.
