Twitter founder Jack Dorsey makes impromptu visit to Nairobi
Twitter Founder Jack Dorsey on Thursday unexpectedly visited ihub
in Kilimani, Nairobi, an innovation and hacker space for the technology
community in the city.
Dorsey's Nairobi visit follows an appearance in Accra, Ghana,
where he attended the 2022 African Bitcoin Conference which took place from
December 5 - December 7.
Prior to meeting with technology enthusiasts at iHub, Dorsey had a
meal at the Crazy Grill in Parklands where he took a photo of the establishment
before sharing it on his official Twitter account.
Dorsey, whose net worth is estimated to be around Ksh.500 billion ($4.2 billion), did not reveal the specifics of his iHub meeting but he did thank all who were present in a subsequent Twitter post.
His visit also coincided with an earlier announcement that he had
invested $2 million (approx. Ksh.245.6 million) into a Kenyan bitcoin mining
startup Gridless.
The Twitter founder's digital payments firm Block and Alyse Killeen’s bitcoin-focused venture firm Stillmark injected the capital into Gridless which seeks to use bitcoin to create new sources of renewable energy for communities in Rural Kenya.
Gridless intends to use the capital to open additional bitcoin
mining sites across the country.
The firm currently has three operational mines in Murang'a
County.
