Transmara clashes: 20 arrested for violence over disputed land
Police in Transmara, Narok County
have arrested 20 people over the resurgence of chaos along the Nkaararo-Enoreetet
border.
According to Narok County
Commissioner Issac Masinde, the multi-agency team bringing together GSU, RDU, ASTU
and non-uniformed officers began flushing out individuals mentioned to be
behind renewed skirmishes on Thursday.
“This is unnecessary and illegal
fighting over a piece of land because there are title deeds indicating to whom
each piece of land belongs,” he said.
Masinde said they are also
following leads to illegal guns believed to have been used in recent attacks
which have left an unknown number with various injuries.
“There is a road separating the two
parcels where anyone can graze their livestock freely. That is the official position until the court decides otherwise,” added the police boss.
This comes days after three governors
from the vast Maa community pitched camp in Kilgoris a fortnight ago in an
effort to bring a long-lasting solution between the two warring clans of Irwa
Shinkishu and Isiria.
During the operation, one of the
area assistant chiefs from the Isiria clans was also arrested. However, Masinde
clarified that he was found in a local drinking den during official working hours.
The disputed border has since been
turned into a special operation zone.
