Traffic restored on Mtwapa-Kilifi road after floods cut off Mbogolo bridge

In a statement, KeNHA said restoration works on the bridge are complete, and road is now open to the public.
"The Kenya National Highways Authority informs the public that restoration works are complete at the Mbogolo Bridge along the Mtwapa - Kilifi (A7) Road, and that the road section is now open to traffic. The Authority appreciates your co-operation and understanding during the restoration process. Your safety remains our priority," KeNHA said.
On Saturday, KeNHA has advised motorists to use the Mombasa-Mazeras-Kaloleni-Mavueni-Kilifi road as an alternative route after the bridge collapsed.
"Currently, a new bridge is being constructed in this area as part of the Kwa Kadzengo-Kilifi Road Project. KeNHA staff are on site to help restore traffic passage through the affected road section," the State agency said in the statement.
The coastal counties of Kilifi, Mombasa, Kwale and Tana River have been affected by floods due to the ongoing El Nino rains in the country.
The floods have led to the death of more than 10 people and destruction of property.
Thousands others have been displaced by the floods.
Other counties affected include Garissa, Wajir and Mandera.
