Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria on Friday met with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni at Nakasero State Lodge in Kampala.

In a statement issued on Saturday morning, Kuria said he was in the neighbouring country to deliver a “special message” to Museveni from President William Ruto, adding that he also took the opportunity to discuss a wide range of bilateral, regional, continental and global issues.

“Yesterday, I had the pleasure of meeting President Yoweri Museveni at State House Kampala where I delivered a special message from his brother, President William Ruto,” said Kuria.

He added: “We also took the opportunity to discuss a wide range of bilateral, regional, continental and global issues. In particular, I thanked President Museveni for allowing limited exportation of Iron Ore to Kenya on a special consideration.”

Following the talks, the Trade CS said Kenya and Uganda will also set up a joint mechanism to conduct a SWOT analysis of the two countries’ agricultural, manufacturing and service potential with a view to joint supply chain planning.

President Museveni also posted on Twitter to honour President Ruto saying, “I thank H.E. William Ruto for opening the market for our milk, eggs, and chicken, among others.”

Moses Kuria replied to President Museveni’s his tweet saying, “Thank you your Excellency for your warm hospitality and great insights. As we've towards the Tripartite Free Trade Agreement and the merger of EAC, COMESA and SADC, Kenya and Uganda will walk that journey together and ultimately into AFCFTA.”
