'Tourism revenue to increase by 200%,' Isaac Mwaura says on Visa abolishment

Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura says the number of tourists visiting the country will increase from 1.48 million to 2.5 million in the short term, and 4 million by 2027 following the abolishment of visa requirements for all global visitors by President William Ruto.

Mwaura said the move will be of great benefit to the tourism industry as it is expected to increase revenue by 200 per cent.

"As our global presence increases, the government has seen it wise to make visits to Kenya easier and seamless. Currently, Kenyans enjoy entry to 46 countries visa-free, on reciprocity, whereas another 152 require VISA,” he said.

“Kenya receives 1.48 million tourists annually, and the Visa-free entry will increase our international tourists to 2.5 million in the short term and by 2026 to 2027, we expect to have 4.5 million tourists in the country. The sector will have over 200% growth in terms of revenue."

The government spokesman also assured people living in the diaspora that they would get help from the government in case of any crisis.

He urged Kenyans abroad to register with embassies so that it will be easy for the government to trace their location when they need government help.

"The cases of mistreatment of Kenyans in Saudi Arabia have reduced since President Ruto took over. This is attributed to the Labor Migrant Stability policy that includes training and capacity building," he said.

"The government has also held 30 diaspora stakeholder engagements either through webinars or in-person town hall meetings attended by the President and other top government officials, to sensitize Kenyans in the diaspora about local opportunities and also add their voices on laws and regulations."

Mwaura further stated that Kenyans abroad need not travel back to the country to get government services as arrangements have been made to ensure they can get the services online via the 'Huduma Mashinani Majuu' platform.

"The government has ensured easier service delivery through 100 mobile consular services to Kenyans in 100 cities spread across 22 countries in the world. Over 9,000 Kenyans have so far been served through this program dubbed “Huduma Mashinani Majuu," he noted.
