Tob Cohen murder: Sarah Wairimu rearrested, to be charged afresh
Detectives have arrested Sarah Wairimu Kamotho to press
fresh murder charges against her over the brutal murder of her late husband Tob Cohen in
2019.
Sarah’s arrest came after the Director of Public Prosecution reviewed the murder file of the case, which had been withdrawn earlier.
In a statement to the Director of Criminal Investigations, the DPP stated that after reviewing the file, there is enough evidence to have Wairimu charged with the murder.
Detectives from the Homicide Investigations Bureau
immediately arrested Sarah upon receipt of the DPP’s recommendation and
detained her at Kilimani Police Station, awaiting court proceedings on Friday.
Investigators say Sarah is expected to take a plea when she is presented in court.
Sarah was first arrested in 2019 after Cohen’s body was discovered in a septic tank within their Kitisuru home.
The discovery prompted police to arrest Sarah, who was then charged with the offence. She opposed the charges and applied for a constitutional review of the case.
This led the then DPP, Noordin Haji, to
launch an inquest into the case and drop the murder charges.
Even though the case was withdrawn, the DCI applied to have the file reviewed, and the DPP now says there is sufficient evidence to have Sarah Kamotho prosecuted for the murder of Tob Cohen.
The case is expected to
start afresh immediately after the suspect takes a plea on the murder charges.
