Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua lectured a crowd after they heckled at President William Ruto’s meeting in Kiambu on Wednesday.

An agitated Gachagua told off the hecklers, saying it (heckling) was not a behavior of the Mt. Kenya people, but instead an 'ODM behaviour.'

“This behavior of heckling in front of the king is not the behavior of the Mt. Kenya people. That is ODM behavior, and as your leader, I do not want to see that again,” he said.

He mentioned that they should let Governor Kimani Wamatangi and Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung'wa speak, and if they disagreed with their sentiment, they should keep quiet.

“When the Governor stands to speak, listen to what he has to say, and when Kimani Ichung’wa speaks, listen. If you disagree with what was said, keep quiet,” said Gachagua.

In his rant, Gachagua referred to President Ruto as ‘our king’ and said the crowd had embarrassed him.

“This is our King, the President of Kenya. He has come to bring development to our area. You are bringing shame in front of the President of the Republic of Kenya in an area where we are honourable people,” he stated

“I have been embarrassed as a leader of Mt. Kenya.”

President William Ruto’s development tour of Mt. Kenya was overshadowed by political tensions among local leaders in Kiambu County, as they were pitted against each other.

While calming the storm, the President reminded political leaders to concentrate on their responsibilities as elected officials and provide adequate services to the public. He also assured the country that the economic situation was improving.

"Let's calm down on political matters, particularly those of 2027. As your leader, I ask you to remain calm and patient as things progress. I want to assure you that I will hold a meeting to plan a peaceful approach to politics and end the fighting," said Ruto.

In the meeting, Kiambu Senator Karungo Wa Thangwa, Kiambu Woman Representative Ann Wamuratha, and Thika Town MP Alice Nganga challenged Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi over his handling of county affairs.

Ruto and Gachagua were not amused as they called on the leaders to tone down their political differences and focus on service delivery.
