Thika Town MP Alice Ng'ang'a wants Kiambu County split into two 'for fair sharing of resources'

Thika Town Member of Parliament Alice Ng'ang'a has called for Kiambu County to be split into two "for residents to benefit fully from government resources".

Speaking on Saturday, MP Ng'ang'a argued that the county, which boasts more than 2.4 million people as per the 2019 demographic survey, should be divided into East and West in a bid to evenly distribute the available resources.

She hinted at tabling a motion in Parliament to have the county subdivided into more constituencies and wards for easy administration by the Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

“It is high time for wards to be split, constituencies and even the county to be split so that we have Kiambu East and Kiambu West,” MP Ng'ang'a said.

“It is all about representation; when our people are well represented, we are also happy… I am asking that even as the IEBC goes on with delimitations, it starts with Thika Town.”

The lawmaker further said that the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) is not adequate for her constituents in disbursing funds for children and ensuring development for her people.

“The money I get for CDF is not enough because my representation is very high. I would want Thika town split because it is all about representation,” she noted.

“One Laboratory is not enough and we need like three since children are many, they also need a large dining table and extra classes.”

While defending herself from unfulfilled promises, she said: “If you listen to all the genuine things they want me to do for them, you will know that because of the little and scarce money, I was am not able to do everything.”
