Thika Court adjourns plea-taking for woman accused of stabbing boyfriend 27 times

Wanjiru, who had bandages on her hand, indicated that a medical procedure was scheduled for yesterday but had not yet been completed.

Salome Wanjiru, a middle-aged woman accused of stabbing her boyfriend, Conrad Nyabuto, 27 times to death, failed to take her plea at Thika Law Courts on Thursday.

The defense team informed the court that Wanjiru was unwell and required medical attention.

Wanjiru, who had bandages on her hand, indicated that a medical procedure was scheduled for yesterday but had not yet been completed.

Her lawyer presented a discharge summary as evidence, although it did not provide details of any further procedure.

Senior Resident Magistrate Fredrick Koome deferred the plea-taking until Monday, January 20th, to allow time for Wanjiru's treatment.

The court ordered that she be taken to Kenyatta University Teaching, Research, and Referral Hospital for proper medical evaluation and then be remanded at Ruiru Police Station.

Wanjiru was arrested after the lifeless body of her boyfriend, Nyabuto, was discovered in his rented house in Kamakis, Ruiru, in mid-December 2024.

The prosecution had earlier informed the court that a mental assessment had been conducted on Wanjiru, confirming that she was fit to take her plea.
