Thieves scale wall, steal phones from patients in maternity ward

The suspects gained entry by scaling the hospital perimeter wall at 3 am on Wednesday before stealing from patients who were asleep during the incident.

Kisumu County Chief Officer in charge of Communication, Public Affairs and Special Programs John Oywa says police and the hospital management are actively probing the matter.

Oywa says the hospital administrator and security officers who were on duty have recorded statements with the police.

He says to avoid a repeat of the incident, the County's Department of Medical Services is enforcing perimeter fences, including installation of electric fences in County Health facilities.

He says the county has also made a decision to reorganize security officers and those found to have been negligent on their duties will face disciplinary action adding that the county was apologetic to those affected.
