Speaking in Boyani One village, Rabai Constituency, during the launch of a rural electrification project implemented by the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC), Wandayi said the opposition outfit epitomises what ails Kenya’s leadership.
“These are people who held key positions in government for years but have little to show for it. President Ruto might as well begin writing his 2027 victory speech,” said Wandayi.
The CS, flanked by Rabai MP Anthony Kenga and Kilifi Deputy Governor Flora Mbetsa, urged residents to support President William Ruto’s administration, highlighting a KSh 4.7 billion investment in electrification projects across the five coastal counties. Of this amount, KSh 1.9 billion is earmarked for Kilifi County.
The Boyani Project, expected to connect 172 households to electricity, marks the beginning of what Wandayi called “a season of good tidings” for Rabai.
The project is being implemented through a matching fund arrangement where MP Kenga, through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), contributed KSh 5 million. REREC matched this with KSh 5 million—KSh 2 million more than originally planned—to ensure the project’s success.
MP Kenga noted that Rabai still faces a significant electricity deficit, with 220 villages in need of electrification.
CS Wandayi also announced that he would remain in Rabai for two days to supervise ongoing electrification projects.
Kilifi Deputy Governor Mbetsa revealed that the county government has allocated KSh 30 million for rural electrification, with REREC expected to provide matching funds. She lauded President Ruto for prioritizing development in Kilifi.
Local residents, including John Khamisi, expressed their relief and optimism, saying the electrification project marks a long-awaited breakthrough after years of unfulfilled promises.a
