They called me a liar, but look at me now: Elated Ruto boasts of Mukuru affordable homes

While addressing the convocation, the elated Head of State kept on expressing how monumental the move is, breaking into praise songs, quoting bible verses and even saying a prayer.

He maintained that the project is a realization of the much-censured Affordable Housing project, noting it will serve as a silencer to his political detractors.

"I am happier than you because my dream has been achieved and it is possible to move the desolate and give them a decent living," said Ruto. 

"They told me that it is not possible, that I am a liar, and today I am here. Has it not been possible? Is it true or a lie?"

President Ruto further maintained that his dream of providing a decent living to Kenyans has just started manifesting, and he will not tire of improving the lives of citizens.

"This is one of the most consequential days of my political career. Today I can hand over keys to citizens of our nation, people who would otherwise have never had a chance in life. But today they have the keys not just to open doors but to open a home into dignity and we are making a difference in the lives of Kenyans," he said.

"This is the first batch. In August or September we will come to hand over another 5,000 units. We will come back again in the new year and hand over another 5,000, and that will be the trend until we give 13,000 houses to Kenyans."

President Ruto noted that the project has so far injected Ksh.11 billion into construction and neighbourhood development, "meaning nearly Ksh.28 billion has already been infused into the economy through this single initiative".

He added that the new units will now create room for a flourishing economy with businesses booming around the area.

"Corner shops, daycares, schools, clinics, and digital start-ups. Young people will set up gyms, salons, studios, and delivery services," he said.

The site, Ruto intimated, includes 3.2km of roads, 14,321 square metres of parking space, 9km of walkways and 3.9km of sewer lines. 

It also has a fire station, a health centre, day care facilities, a strip mall, 32 transformer houses, waste rooms, pump rooms, and more.

"The project includes a 5-million-litre underground tank, high-level storage tanks holding 210,000 litres, booster pumps, and a comprehensive fire water system, delivering services that both dignify and protect," Ruto added.

He implored more aspiring homeowners to register with the Boma Yangu website to give them a fair chance at securing a home under his administration's housing programme.
