Tharaka Nithi: 2 girls drown in Kithino river while swimming

Two girls have drowned in Kithino river at Chiakariga area in Tharaka Nithi County.

The two aged 12 and 13 reportedly went swimming as a group of four children around Sunday noon after a church service.

According to area Sub-Chief Jane Mukami, one of them was overwhelmed by the water currents whereby the other rushed to her rescue but drowned while trying to help her friend.

The remaining two ran to report the matter at around 2PM, but by the time neighbours came to rescue the girls the girls had already passed away.

The bodies of the two have been removed to the Marimanti Level 4 Hospital.
