The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) has announced that salary reviews for all public servants shall not be effected for the financial year 2024/25.

In a statement on Thursday, the Commission noted that the move was prompted by the existing fiscal constraints and budget cuts emanating from the withdrawal of the unsavoury Finance Bill, 2024.

SRC added that the Bill's withdrawal strained the budget allocation for upward reviews of remuneration and benefits for public servants.

Therefore, SRC ordered that existing salary structures will continue to be applied within the budget allocation and no additional funding will be provided for implementation of job evaluation results.

"Public service institutions with Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA) that are impacted by the deferred implementation of salary review in the financial year 2024/2025, are advised to engage the respective trade unions accordingly," read the statement in part.

The review shall remain frozen until further notice "contingent upon the availability of funding" and also advice from the National Treasury.

This comes after SRC froze the upward salary review of all State officers on July 3 following public outcry amid nationwide anti-government protests.

SRC Chairperson Lyn Mengich revealed that the commission had stopped the salary increment for, among others, Members of Parliament after consultations with the National Treasury.
