Sossion, Milemba to lose trade union positions
The government has directed that 11 state officers relinquish their positions in their respective trade unions on account of being state officers.
Prominent names in the list include Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Wilson Sossion and Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) chairperson Omboko Milemba .
In a gazzete notice published on Wednesday, East African Community, Labour and Social protection Cabinet Secretary Phyllis Kandie directed the state officers to vacate their positions in trade unions as required by Article 77 of the constitution which states, “ A full time state officer shall not participate in any other gainful employment,”
A number of (KUPPET and KNUT officials were either elected on August 8 or nominated as MPs by political parties.
