Former President
Uhuru Kenyatta has taken a jab at his successor, President William Ruto,
cheekily remarking how his regime becomes uneasy whenever the youth voice their
concerns.
Speaking at the
wedding of David Kimoi, former Baringo Senator Gideon Moi's son, Uhuru revealed
how the late retired President Daniel Moi showed him the ropes in his political journey
and wasn't agitated by young people.
In a veiled jab at
the current regime, Uhuru compared how Ruto's administration is unable to
withstand the pressure from the youths who call for better governance.
"You know, I
tell people that I had a biological father who was a politician who put
political genes in my system, and they are still there, but now they are lying
low," the former President pointed out.
"But I also
had a political father (Moi), and you know he wasn't scared of young people
like some people around here today. When young people talk, they panic."
In the past weeks,
Uhuru has been on a clarion call for a youth-led revolution, citing that they
are the last line of defence to rescue the nation for the sake of future
generations.
President Ruto's
henchmen, however, took issue with Uhuru's remarks and accused him of
sidelining the youth during his term, but now brandishing himself as their
champion.
"Former
President Uhuru Kenyatta, during his 10 years in office, appointed Mzee Moody
Awori, then aged 91, as the chairman of the Sports Fund," Kimilili MP
Didmus Barasa said during an interdenominational fundraiser in Malava
Constituency recently.
"When
questioned, he said young people are thieves, and he preferred appointing an
elder. Today he says he loves the youth — that is hypocrisy. Unless he changes
his ways, even Jesus will not return!"
