Six injured as gunmen attack Nairobi-bound bus

According to a police report obtained by Citizen Digital, the bus carrying 50 passengers was heading to Nairobi at 8.30 pm before being intercepted by unknown armed men who began spraying the vehicle with bullets. 

As a result, six people were shot, sustaining limb injuries. Five of the casualties were rushed to hospital to receive medical treatment and are currently recuperating. 

A female passenger, who was shot in the abdomen with the bullet lodged in the chest, is in critical condition. 

Shortly after the incident, another vehicle, a Toyota Landcruiser that was following the bus was also attacked by the gunmen in the same area. 

The armed men opened fire on the vehicle, killing one of the passengers. The driver managed to make a sudden halt and escaped the scene unhurt. 

Police officers in Moyale have since launched investigations to nab the armed men reigning terror in the area. 

In the recent past, Moyale has been plagued by a myriad of challenges, primarily on insecurity with residents calling for urgent intervention. 

Last month, Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli held a security meeting in the area following the abductions of two South Korean nationals after two armed men stormed into Odda Mission Secondary School on August 12, 2024.

Masengeli urged the area police to jointly work with the public to address insecurity gaps in the area by volunteering any information that could lead to the arrest of the armed assailants.
