Siaya County Assembly special committee recommends impeachment of DG William Oduol
Siaya County Assembly's special committee
that was established to investigate the grounds for the motion of removal of Deputy
Governor William Oduol from office has recommended that he (Oduol) be
impeached.
The committee, in its report tabled on the
floor of the House by Chairman Francis Otiato on Thursday, indicated that it
found the allegations of gross violation of the constitution and other laws to
be substantiated.
It stated that the allegations of
interference with the procurement processes through acts of bid rigging have also been proven.
On allegations of abuse of office and gross
misconduct, the committee indicated that it established that claims of
bulldozing officers to renovate the office of the Deputy Governor out of
approved budgetary provisions were proven and therefore substantiated.
On misuse of public resources as well as
bullying, the committee said it found that the allegations were proven hence substantiated.
The Otiato-led team further stated that it
found the claims levelled against the embattled DG of misleading the public by
giving false information were also true.
After according the deputy governor a chance
to be heard, the committee recommended that he be impeached by the County
Assembly.
The House is currently debating on the
report.
