Fifteen more bodies have been recovered at Shakahola Forest in Kilifi County as the search for victims of a suspected starvation cult continues.

According to Coast Regional Commissioner Rhoda Onyancha, out of the 15 bodies recovered on Wednesday, 14 were exhumed from graves while one was found dumped in the bushes.

This brings the tally of dead bodies recovered so far from the forest to 226.

RC Onyancha noted that one person, a male, was rescued on Wednesday during the search and rescue operation.

She however says that no arrests were made during the operation and the number of people under police custody still stands at 31.

Dubbed one of the worst tragedies in the country so far, the cult linked to controversial Paul Mackenzie Nthenge of the Good News International Church has so far seen over 610 people still missing.

Mackenzie is accused of brainwashing his followers to starve themselves to death in order to "meet Jesus." He denies the allegations in the police reports he recorded.

The self-proclaimed pastor is still on trial and has not yet been charged.
