In a formal notification from the Isiolo County Assembly Speaker, the House will discuss the grounds for Guyo's ouster, which include gross misconduct, abuse of office, and violation of various laws and the Constitution.
Senate Speaker Amason Kingi indicated that the Senators will convene in Parliament at 10:00 am. In addition, the lawmakers will also discuss the Report of the Mediation Committee on the Division of Revenue Bill, 2025 (National Assembly Bills No. 10 of 2025), alongside the agreed version of the same Bill.
The development comes as Guyo was impeached after 16 out of 18 MCAs voted in favour of the impeachment motion filed by Sericho MCA Abubakar Godana.
The motion cited numerous leadership shortcomings such as the stalling of major development projects, failure to achieve revenue targets, and the creation of a bloated executive, appointing 36 advisors and 31 chief officers, despite Isiolo County receiving the third-lowest revenue allocation nationally.
In addition, the impeached governor was accused of issuing short-term, two-year contracts to chief officers, a move the County Assembly argued created an "environment of fear and uncertainty."
The impeachment motion moved forward despite a court order prohibiting the Assembly from proceeding with the process.
On June 17, Justice Heston Nyaga of the High Court in Isiolo certified the governor’s application as urgent and directed that the motion should not be admitted, processed, debated, or considered until the case is heard and determined.
Despite the court directive, the County Assembly shifted the proceedings from Isiolo to Nakuru, and later to Machakos, amid reports that some MCAs had gone into hiding ahead of the impeachment vote.
In line with Article 181 of the Constitution, the matter now proceeds to the Senate, which will determine whether the charges meet the required threshold for Governor Guyo’s permanent removal from office.
